Isn't he sweet? Laura's mother got these of him. We really loved the ones of him kissing Laura's sister. He really is a very sweet dog. It always makes you wonder why when they show up this way...
Anyway, he is regaining his weight so that he isn't just a bag of bones like he was when he showed up.
No, Jessica - you don't have to worry. George isn't going anywhere. He will be one of the few we keep simply because there are few people around here who would want a pitt bull mix for the right reason. And there are already way too many of them around. We see hand-lettered signs up in front of houses way too often to suit us. We would never take that kind of a chance with a dog like George. Nope, he is right where he will stay. Besides, he created quite a bond with Laura's daughter, sleeping in her bed and all.
We got his (and everyone else's) rabies shots, including the new mama kitty, Baby, whom we also took in, along with her three babies. Then came along two more kittens she ended up dopting as her own, despite the fact that they were about 8 weeks old at the time and hers were only two weeks old when we rescued them from under a house. Oh, and before you ask, yes - we are keeping all of the kittens. Only one boy out of the whole bunch, unfortunately, though. We have LOTS of spaying to do, especially before Baby goes into heat again. The problem is that they just had the low-cost spay/neuter clinic while she was nursing and won't have one again for some time - probably too late for her. Same thing that happened to us with our female dogs. We aren't sure where we will get the money to get her fixed yet (much less all those babies!), but what else could we do when we found out about their predicament? Same with George, though it isn't quite as urgent for him as it is for Baby. Guess we will just have to have faith that everything will work out.
It has been interesting trying to build a house with kittens scampering everywhere. And just try and sweep the floor! At least two or three of them attack the broom the whole time. It's hilarious! And so very cute. Guess it's a good thing we are animal lovers, though, as that would annoy most people. We just find it funny and adorable. I still haven't gotten any pictures of them, though. I do need to do that. Just like I need to post the ones of the house Laura's mother finally sent. We have just been so busy building the thing lately that we haven't done much else. But at least we are finally living in it and are out of that trailer! I don't know what we would have done with all of these felines if we didn't have this house. We got it ready just in time, though we really were not to the stage for kittens yet. We had planned to adopt some cats from one of the shelters if none had shown up by the time we were ready. Doesn't look as if that will be a problem now though, does it???
We'll try to get some pics soon. Meanwhile - back to work a'building! We have got lots to do. It is taking shape, though, and it does get a bit better each day.
Just a note to Virgil to say that I have a very close friend who worked in an abboitoir for some years and became Vegan as a result. She is still very active in this field in Australia and has helped me to change my diet and many other people's diets through discussion. I am now Vegan but I have been a vegetarian since a very young age.
Your stories have helped me very much. I have made a decision to get active in the Animal Rights movement now and I thank you very much for this. It is your website that has helped me to understand what goes on behind closed doors and that it is time for action. I am sorry that you had to go through all that cruelty but you have helped the world a lot by exposing that cruelty.
Good on Ya! - Lorry from Australia.
